The name of gecko tokay (Gekko gecko) comes from the vocalizations that these animals can produce. This call is perceived as a "to-keh" or "to-kay", being emitted in situations of stress, fear, during the territorial defense by dominant animals or produced in the breeding season in search of a partner.
